July 1st: Full Buck Moon in Capricorn
Hello Everyone to the first of two full moons in July. How exciting!
I did some looking into the two moons this month trying to understand blue moons and here is what I found: A Blue moon is considered the third moon in a season that has four moons. It is sort of like an extra moon in a season that if it was counted/named would mess up the tracking of the seasons, holidays, agriculture...However in 1946 a magazine misinterpreted this information to mean it was the second moon in one month, which is now what many people call a blue moon. So you choose which you believe. The almanac says that the next Blue Moon is May 21 2016.
For more on the blue moon check out this link.
Now back to the current full moon:
One of the names for this full moon is the Full Buck Moon because it is at this time that deer grow their antlers. It also has other names such as thunder moon, mead moon, oak moon, blessing moon, moon of claiming.
It's colours are: Green Silver, Blue-Gray. It's Element is water.
This moon is in Capricorn. This means that it is a good time to get things done, to take action, and to celebrate your accomplishments. There may be alot going on and and at this time maybe you find yourself in your head too often, try and find balance between head and heart. The mood is task oriented-good time to set short term goals to help in reaching a longer goal.
Here are some guiding questions to get you journaling:
-Make a list of actions (I dare you to pick one and do it!!)
-What do you need to feel secure? What is the story? Why ?
-Is there anywhere that you are stalling or wasting time due to a fear?
-What do you need to do or get rid of to grow?

On to the Art Journal....
For this page I knew I wanted to run with the bucks. I searched pinterest for photos of stags/deer/bucks until I found the one that called to me (it actually didn't take all that long). I printed it off in black and white and used it as a collage. Here is the link to the photo I used. If you are feeling called to use a different animal or image or create your own from scratch go for it! I can't wait to see your take on this weeks journal. If you want a little more inspiration check out my whimsical inspiration board here.
After I collage the page down I begin to paint over top-you could use realistic colours to bring your image to life or go wild. I was inspired by artist Starla Michelle for the style of this page.
While I worked on this page, I had already done some journaling on the questions above and actually went into some dark places in my life that have been pulling on me lately as hard as I try to ignore them. I took some time to be with this darkness and discovered I was doing what the full moon does-illuminates, shed light. Being with the darkness in this way motivated me to create some actions to move forward, not just pushing them back farther to the dark, but to work with them, build and strengthen relationships, connections and support (the red thread of connection, which I attach to my stag). This was echoed in my page by taking a black and white photo and turning it into a bright and magical piece of work with the message of "Illuminate your Story".
Hope you enjoy this moons lesson, take some time to breathe and look up at this beautiful moon. What does she mean to you, what is she calling you to do, celebrate or honor?
