Wilt to Bloom

I just finished reading Rupi Kaur's 2 books of poetry. "Milk and Honey" and "The Sun and her Flowers". Her poetry is short but impact-full. They way she fits and embodies her meaning in her text is beautiful. So many of her poems resonated with me, often like a blow of realization and acceptance to the solar plexus. So many times I just held the books in awe and love, I re-read poems over and over knowing the feelings, accepting the feelings. I just wanted to stop and cradle the words.

Some of the poems were an awakening; a permission that it's okay to feel different ways, it's okay to be you, it's okay to be me. A reminder and reinforcement that I am enough, and you are enough. A reminder that there are so many people out there who feel the same way, struggling with their own battles and self-worth, that we forget we are enough, and that self acceptance and compassion is a good place to start. Too often we look outside of ourselves to find the love and acceptance that we have not been able to grant ourselves.

In short, her work is very inspiring and I am so happy she decided to share it with the world, and that I happened to pick it up.

"this is the recipe of life
said my mother
as she held me in her arms as i wept
think of those flowers you plant
in the garden each year
they will teach you
that people too
must wilt
fall
root
rise
in order to bloom"

-Rupi Kaur

This wilting and growth is a cycle that happens again and again each time we grow and change. It is continuous.

I feel over the past few weeks, I have wilted and fell, and I am starting to root again.

Where are you at in the cycle?
