What are guides? Guides, where to start? I am not an expert on guides, but here is my ever evolving understanding of them. Guides are beings/essence/energy that help to protect, educate, heal and inspire you. Guides choose you, you may not always like a guide. There are many types of guides. Some guides carry messages for you and will stay until you’ve gotten the message. Others are there for a journey and will help with decisions and signs, and will stay until the journey is complete. Life guides are there throughout your life, you can have more than one of these and they emphasize who you are and your strengths. Shadow guides come to test you, and teach us about areas that need changing.
Fox I feel it is important that before we start considering the facts and what some meanings of the fox could be, that you start to define for yourself what the fox means to you. **I suggest for most of our writing and letters that you free write. Meaning you write with out thinking what ever comes to mind, even if it doesn’t makes sense or if it is spelled right. You can even set a timer and not stop writing until it buzzes (3-10 min would be a good starting point).**
What do you already know about foxes? (for example, what do they look like? What do they eat? Where do they sleep? What colours can they be? When do they sleep? Etc..)
What do you like about the fox?
What do you dislike about the fox?
What can the fox teach us?
The Fox: When I think of the fox my first thoughts are: agile, clever, resourceful, and playful. Full of love, and curious. Seen as sneaky and even as tricksters. They are nocturnal, mammal that hunts (bugs, mice, birds…). There are many different species. Live in burrow/dens in ground, can also be found in cities; adaptable! Camouflage, great parents, and observer.
What draws me to the fox? I find them playful, beautiful, and majestic. They have delicate features, but are strong and clever. Their camouflage could be interpreted to being able to blend in, and to be able to observe with out being detected. The fox chooses when to be seen. You are able to see and think before moving forward. Knowing when to move-not waiting too long.
Perhaps, instead of actively choosing camouflage, you are disappearing. Have you camouflaged your true desire? You are worth noticing!
Fox also asks us to be aware of what is happening in the world around us. Observe and look for patterns in your own life. What keeps coming up for you. You could also look into the dreams you have when you are sleeping, what is your sub-conscious trying to say?
Fox calls us to observe not only outside but inside of ourselves. What are you really feeling in any given moment? How are you making decisions. Are you speaking and acting in your truth? What feels right for you?
What is your camouflage? How do you choose to use it? Why? Is it a defense you have mastered for protection? Do you use it as a way to observe and make choices based on your observations? Do you want to blend in more? Why or why not?
The fox, in some legends, is known as a shapeshifter. Do you wear different masks in different situations? What are some of the masks or roles you take on? What would happen if you took those masks off? Who are you under the masks?
What is your chicken coop? What is your dream/desires/or maybe the better question is-how do you want to feel? What nourishes you? Sometimes instead of focusing on a goal or dream we need to ask how we want to feel and what will help us to feel that way-then create our desires around that.
The fox is good at maneuvering obstacles. What is in the way for achieving your desires, or how you want to feel? What is stopping you? How can you move away from, or clear these obstacles? Are there boundaries you can set up to help you? What are they?
What are some small and/or large actions you can take to move forward? How and when will you make your move towards your desires? If you want-create a time line of when you will do this.
In some legends the fox (and coyote) create the universe by singing it into being. What is your song? What does your desired universe look like for you?
Let’s think about where the fox lives. The burrow underground-where roots are. The fox can show us things that are hidden, buried within us. Before you paint ask yourself-your inner fox-write it, journal it-What is hidden from you? What are you not seeing that can help you to release and/or move forward?
When you have finished your painting, write a letter from the perspective of your fox. What does your fox have as a message for you. Set a timer and free write. Don’t think about it, even if it is not making sense. Does your fox have a name? Sign it from your Fox.
Has anything changed or anything new come to light about what the fox means for you? Is there anything that you have embraced about the fox that you hadn’t thought of before?
